This Postal Mail Storage Car is currently wearing a faded UP Maintenance of Way green paint scheme and the number 903683. UP 5901 is one of three (5900-5902) Postal Mail Storage cars built by American Car and Foundry in September 1949.

The car was built for general service on the UP "name" trains to Floor Plan 7667152, Lot 3027. The 5901 has a 21' Baggage (Mail Storage) section and a 60' Railway Post Office section. The post office section still has all the pidgeon holes for sorting the mail!

This feature came in handy for the cars last use as a tool car for the maintenance of way forces on the UP who used it primarilly as a tool room for the signal maintainers. The car weighs approximately 124,300 pounds and rides on 6" x 11" bearings. the car awaits her restoration to the famous UP Armour Yellow and gray scheme.
