The museum is located on the naval base at Hunters
Point, San Francisco. Generally if you say you are visiting
the Golden Gate Railroad Museum the security guards will let you
pass. On occasion visitors have been asked to show a valid driver's
license, car registration, and proof of vehicle insurance to the
security guard at the entrance to the base. Once you are admitted
onto the base, just follow the GGRM signs to the museum.See

By Car: See
Map. Going to the museum is similar to going to the SBC Ballpark-from
the 280 Freeway take the Cesar Chavez East exit and make your way
to Third Street. Turn right and then left on Evans. Take Evans east
toward the bay. Evans essentially continues all the way to the naval
base entrance, although its name changes to Innes in the last two
blocks.
By Public Transportation: Caltrain's
northern terminus is at 4th and Townsend in San Francisco. It is
about a 15 minute cab ride to the museum.
Alternatively, the SF Muni route #19 runs out
to the Hunters Point shipyard and stops within walking distance
to museum on the base. Check for running schedules and route details
at www.sfmuni.com.
