Southern Pacific 3194 is a passenger version
GP9, built by the Electromotive Division of General Motors (EMD)
in 1954. This locomotive originally served on the Texas & New
Orleans and was transferred to California when passenger service
ended on the T&NO. Number 3194 saw service on the San Francisco
to San Jose commute run until passenger service was taken over by
CalTrain and the Joint Powers Board.

Prototype Modeler magazine had an article in their February 1979
issue about SP commute service GP9's that covered history and modeling.
The October 1983 issue of Model Railroader had a clinic
question and answer about SP Passenger Geeps. You can order photocopies
of the article direct from Kalmbach publishing at 1-800-533-6644.
